Elusive People
Sylvester Cecil Scofield (Thersa Jones)There is absolutely nothing known about the nephew of my great grandfather, Russell...who would of been at least 7 when Sylvester was born. Like I said in the posting on his father Oscar, if Sylvester lived a long and healthy life it is entirely expected that he should of lived as late as 2001. If Sylvester Cecil Scofield was your dad, granddad, great grand dad....the entire Reuben Oscar Scofield family would like to hear from you. The Scofield Family Project would like to hear from you!
Thersa Jones (Oscar Sylvester Scofield)Not much is known about this lady. We'd like to know where she went after Oscar died in Saskatchewan. It was believed that she was French Canadian and at the time would of moved back with her family when she became a widow. Any and all information would be appreciated on Thersa Jones. Did she have more kids? Was Sylvester Cecil the only child?
Oscar Sylvester ScofieldI was at a recent funeral and was talking family history with my great uncle Gary. All the information we have on Oscar's family is the birth of his son two months before he died, as well as the wedding to his wife.
It is believed, because it was typical at that time, that Thersa Jones and her son Sylvester Cecil left Saskatchewan and headed back to her parents. It has been said that she was a French Canadian. By her moving to Quebec (believed) contact was totally lost.
My great grandpa Russell (Sylvester Cecil uncle) would of been at least 7 years old when he was born. That said Sylvester Cecil would of passed away plus or minus 7 years from Russell. That would mean that he would of passed away as late as 2001, and as early as 1990. That would be of course if he lived a long and healthy life and raised a family of his own.
Any and all information would be a MAJOR find and much appreciated by every family member in Canada and abroad.
Canada or Bust!It has been a wide debate as to when exactly did Reuben Oscar and his family leave everything behind and head to the Great White North to homestead. It is documented, the whole family crossing into Saskatchewan when my Great Grandfather was less than a year old.
But histories from Percy Roy and other sources indicate that Reuben first settled with this family in Alberta and that their trek took almost 5 years, with the plan always being to settle in Saskatchewan. Over the course of 5 years they would jump back and forth across the border where work would take them, often just being Reuben and his eldest. Leaving everyone in Canada while they make a living in the US.
All I know is, though it isn't confirmed. Gary almost swears that he has photos. But I only have seen one that was from an obvious Saskatchewan archives. So that is what I am looking for. Any and all pictures of this man, who left it all in search of something better for his entire family.
